Karl J. Rickert, P.E.
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Rickert founded Rickert Engineering, Inc. in 1986 and serves as President of the firm. He is a registered professional engineer in ten states and the District of Columbia. Mr. Rickert has developed particular expertise in computer analysis and design, structural systems selection, and restoration of existing structures. Through his associations with several structural consulting firms, Mr. Rickert has gained considerable experience in both large and small building projects. This experience has included work on commercial, institutional and residential projects for both the private and public sectors.
While working, Mr. Rickert completed a Masters Degree in Structural Engineering. All the courses in the program were oriented toward the analysis and design of structures. Mr. Rickert utilizes his strong theoretical and practical background to develop economical solutions to structural problems.
Mr. Rickert's graduate program in management taught him formal
methods for providing quality engineering services. These methods
are applied from the beginning of the design process, when the
needs of his clients are determined, to the end of the construction
phase when his client's needs are fulfilled.

More than half of the work performed by Rickert Engineering, Inc. has been related to the investigation, repair and modification of existing structures. This work often required a visual survey of the existing conditions, testing of the materials and an evaluation of the capacity of the existing structure. The results of the investigations were used to develop repair and modification alternatives, and estimates of probable cost. Contract documents have been developed based on the alternatives selected by the owner. Samples include:
